What a Social Media Agency Does: Scope and Pricing

Marka Studio· · 2 min read

Short answer: What exactly does a social media agency deliver, what sits outside scope, and how is the price set? The eight points that must be agreed before signing. The ones your audience uses. For a B2B industrial brand LinkedIn is usually enough and Instagram unnecessary; in retail the reverse. We decide together in the discovery call. A month ahead. Last-minute production costs quality and makes the brand reactive. [Social media agency](/en/agency/social-media-agency/) covers the scope; [social media management](/en/services/digital-marketing/social-media-management/) covers the service. This article was written by the Marka Studio editorial team under digital marketing; our İzmit, Kocaeli based agency works with brands across Turkey, Dubai and Europe, and this piece reflects that hands-on experience.

Short answer: A social media agency runs the brand’s voice, content calendar, visual production and community relationships across channels. But “social media management” is not a scope on its own: how many posts a month, in which formats, how many revision rounds, is the shoot included, who answers comments and DMs — if these are not written down, they come back mid-project as extra invoices. The eight points below cover everything that should be settled before signing.

The eight points to put in writing

1. Monthly volume and format mix

“12 posts” is not enough. How many are static, carousel, reels/video, story? Video costs several times what a static image costs; without a format split, quotes cannot be compared.

2. Is the shoot included?

Where does raw material come from — the agency’s shoot, your own images, or stock? If shoots are included: how many shoot days per year, where, for how long. This line is the most commonly omitted and later added.

3. Revision rounds

How many rounds per piece? Unlimited revisions is not a realistic promise; two rounds is enough for most brands and disciplines the approval process.

4. Community management

This is separate work and should be priced separately. Is there a response-time commitment, does it include weekends, who decides during a crisis? Is a written tone guide delivered?

5. Ad spend versus agency fee

Ad spend goes straight to the platform; the agency never touches it. The fee covers strategy, production and management. Quotes that merge the two hide how much of your money actually buys reach.

6. Account ownership

Meta Business Manager, Instagram, TikTok and the ad accounts must always be in your name, with the agency holding access only. Agency-owned structures wipe out follower history, pixel data and ad learning the day you part ways.

7. Reporting

Which metrics, how often? Reach and engagement are indicators; sales and recall are the goal. An agency reporting only follower growth is not touching sales, because it is not measuring it.

8. Exit clause

What transfers when the contract ends: source files, content archive, calendar, tone guide. If this is not written down, all you keep is the published posts.

How price is set

Four variables: volume and format mix, shoot requirement, number of channels and community management scope. Channel count is the most misleading — being mediocre on five channels always performs worse than being good on two. Choosing only the channels your audience actually uses is the one decision that improves results without raising budget.

Three things we do not do

  • Buy followers. A bought audience suppresses reach and shrinks the brand.
  • Buy engagement. Same reason, plus platform enforcement risk.
  • Write fake reviews or get negative ones removed. Both cost trust in the long run.
